Car maintenance may have a generally accepted definition, but it can mean different things to different people. To the average consumer, it probably means the necessary repairs and replacements that take places over the life of their vehicle. Or maybe it’s just that required oil change every few months. To others though, it’s a way of life. Those most passionate about their vehicles and especially DIY enthusiasts find themselves keeping them spotless, both inside and out, routinely checking their car(s) for problems, and even using their vast automotive knowledge to make impressive customizations.

No matter where you are on the spectrum, here at Threadstrong we aim to learn all we can about our customers’ wants and needs to create something specially designed for them. We drive the extra mile to create a product built to last and one that leaves a long-lasting impression on the look of their vehicles. We’ve done our homework and discovered just how destructive some wheel maintenance methods can be. Think about how your wheel nuts in particular play an essential role in the core function of your vehicle. Yet, many dealerships, repair shops, and individual vehicle owners often use worn out sockets on their power tools that have been proven to deal significant harm to your wheel nuts over time. Seems awfully ironic and counterintuitive, doesn’t it?

That’s why with our products, every purchase ships with a free resource to maximize the longevity, durability, and impression Threadstrong can leave on your vehicle: our Installation and Removal Tutorial. We’ve crafted a set of instructions that educate our customers on how to install their new wheel nuts properly by hand and tightening them with a torque wrench. Doing this achieves the same level of torque as an impact wrench without the unnecessary risk of damage, which can lead to rusting and corrosion over time. Let’s jump into everything you’ll need for success:

  • A breaker bar, used for loosening your old wheel nuts

  • A torque wrench that meets your vehicle's torque requirements (typically 100 ft/lbs.)

  • A corresponding socket that fits your wrench

  • Lastly, you should refer to your owner’s manual to obtain the manufacturer’s specifications for torque requirements.

Once you’ve obtained these tools, your best course of action is to remove your old wheel nuts in a star-shaped pattern, which is shown in the diagrams below:

Using your breaker bar, remove each wheel nut in the numerical order shown in the diagram. Then, hand tighten your new Threadstrong wheel nut onto the stud until tight. Lastly, use your torque wrench with the appropriate socket to fully tighten and secure your wheel nut. Be sure to refer to your owner’s manual to obtain the manufacturer’s torque specifications for your vehicle. Repeat this process for all your fasteners on each wheel.

Once all your new wheel nuts have been fully installed and properly torqued, give yourself a pat on the back. And welcome to the Threadstrong family!

If you ever find yourself needing to remove your Threadstrong wheel nuts, simply follow the installation diagram in reverse. If your wheel nuts are going to be removed by a third-party, such as a dealer or repair shop, it is important to inform them to take the pre-cautionary measures necessary to protect your Threadstrong products from risk of damage.
